The herb garden at the historic Henry F. Breeding Farm was started in Spring 2017. It is located on the property near a one room log cabin, giving an "old time" ambiance to the garden area.
Master Gardeners created the layout for the herb garden. The use of cedar borders around the herb beds helps define the garden space and make the beds easy to maintain.
A row of mint in self-watering pots occupies the back row of the herb garden. Since mint grows by underground rhizomes or runners, it can spread easily and quickly throughout the garden. We love mint and wanted it in our herb garden. Planting the mint in pots contains its natural tendency to spread and the self-watering feature of the pots make it easy to maintain.
Our goal for the herb garden is to provide education to visitors about growing and using herbs.
